"'Wait!' It rings in the ear of every negro with piercing familiarity. this 'wait' has almost always meant 'never'... Justice too long delayed is justice denied."

ABOUT
Communities Allied for Racial Equity (CARE), previously known as Carmel Against Racial Injustice, began in June 2020 when three friends from high school reconnected over the police brutality and discrimination POC were experiencing across the United States. Ashten, a Carmel resident, had put a #BlackLivesMatter sign in her yard where it was vandalized. When Bre saw the video Ashten posted in response, she reached out, motivated to make a change. Bre, Ashten, and Kayla organized the Sit In Against Racial Injustice to #WakeUpCarmel to the racism and racial profiling that is present in their own community. They continue to fight for reform along side members of the community. These efforts have expanded due to the passion and dedication in the Hamilton County Community.
OUR CAMPAIGNS
What We Believe In

REFORM IN SCHOOLS
Every Child Deserves a Safe Place to Learn
A person's success often is reflective of how well they did in school. We believe that children of every race, religion, and sexual orientation deserve equal treatment in the school system. Not only that, but ignorance breeds hatred. Schools have the ability to curve racial discrimination through education.
REFORM IN COMMUNITY
Change Starts at Home
Carmel and the surrounding areas in Hamilton County are not well known for their diversity. We aim to make Carmel a more accepting place for POC to live and visit.

REFORM IN POLICING
No One Should Feel Targeted by Those Meant to Protect
We aim to address and push reform for issues that have been a historical problem in this area. For example, studies have shown an issue with racial profiling in the CPD. We also wish to push policies that would act as preventative measures against the police brutality taking place across our country.
