
MEET THE FOUNDERS



BREANNA HARGROVE
Founder
Breanna grew up in central Indiana and attended Hamilton Southeastern High School. Her experiences there enlightened her to the work that needs done in Hamilton County. She continued her education at Marshall University, where she ran track. She graduated with her degree in respiratory care and works as a respiratory therapist. She is driven by the need for racial equality in schools and our communities. Since helping found C.A.R.E., Breanna has followed her passion for healthcare around the country.
ASHTEN SPILKER

Ashten is a lifelong Carmel resident and dedicated activist. Both sets of her grandparents and her father lived in Carmel. She attended Hamilton Southeastern Schools and went to IUPUI for college where she received her degree in psychology. She works with kids and young adults with autism in schools. Ashten hopes to use her privilege to dismantle systemic racism in schools, cities, and police departments.
KAYLA SEYMOUR
Founder
Kayla, born and raised in Indiana, went to Hamilton Southeastern High School where she experienced the lack of diversity in Hamilton County. She furthered her education at Kent State after receiving a scholarship for Track and Field where she earned her degree in visual arts. She does work as a local artist, currently. She is passionate about improving race relations in the community through education.



JAMES ZIEGLER

James was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Carmel, IN when he was 9. He attended Carmel Clay Schools before going to Indiana University where he received his degree in education with a minor in history and political science. Criminal justice reform and civil rights has always been a passion for James and as an educator he has a desire to see racial equity in our communities and schools.
CARMELLA SPARROW

Carmella is a citizen of the Carmel community and has children that attend Carmel schools. She has degrees from Emory University in Sociology and African American Studies, a master's from the University of Miami in Education and Social Change, and is currently obtaining her doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy from Vanderbilt University. As a teacher, parent, and activist, she is strongly committed to making communities equitable for all students.
ALICIA DUFFY
Information Liaison

Alicia is a 2001 graduate of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, she studied in Madrid, Spain and earned a degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her lifelong fascination with human behavior, especially the social construct of race, has fueled her passion for social justice. After living in many cities, Alicia, her husband and children, enrolled in Carmel Clay Schools, are proud to call Carmel their home.

Evangeline is a passionate member of Carmel Against Racial Injustice. She came to Hamilton Southeastern in 10th grade and quickly realized the lack of diversity. She works as a personal trainer.

CONOR WILLIAMSON

Conor has lived in Indiana since he was 7 years old. He went to North Central High School and continued his education at Ball State University, where he received his degree in Computer Science. His mom was always passionate about human rights and he hopes to follow in her footsteps. Conor hopes to use his privilege to further the cause.
